The hardest brief in food photography is the honest one: make it look exactly as good as it tastes, no better. Shot on location in low, warm restaurant light instead of a studio softbox. Candlelight is a better art director than most lighting kits. The brief widened past the plate too: the same warmth had to carry the room, the bar, and the night out around the meal.
